Kartik Aaryan On South Films, 'Chaar Filmein Hongi Jo Chali Hongi Actual Mein, They Never Talk About Films That Don’t Work'
Kartik Aaryan opens up about the ongoing north vs south debate in terms of movies
Bollywood faced a huge blow during the pandemic. The entertainment industry, which caters to a huge audience worldwide, faced insistent trolling and backlash from the audience for not making good films. Thanks to the boom of OTT platforms, the audience was introduced to content from different parts of the world, and they eventually stopped watching the recently released Bollywood movies. On the other hand, movies by South Indian filmmakers have been gaining recognition.
The debate over North vs South movies has been going on for a year now. Actor Kartik Aaryan, who is busy promoting his upcoming dark thriller Freddy, opened up about the same during an interaction with Koimoi. The actor enjoyed the success of his comedy film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, earlier this year, which was one of the first movies to do a business of Rs 185.92 crore. Talking about the same thing, Kartik told the entertainment publication that his film, which also starred Tabu and Kiara Advani in lead roles, "opened the gates when no other film was working and brought back ‘Housefull’ boards in cinema halls." He pointed out that the debate shouldn’t be over "north vs south," but rather about good films working in theatres.
The 32-year-old actor said, "It’s all about good films working. It’s an Indian film which works or does not work. This discussion has been going on for a long time and now the lines have become blurred. Drishyam 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 did great numbers." The actor objected to people only talking about the ‘four’ films that worked. He added, "They do not talk about the films that do not work, but in this North vs South, they highlight only those that worked. Chaar filmein hongi jo chali hongi actual mein.. (there must be only four films that would have worked), but they highlight as if it’s a race going on." For the uninitiated, the list of this year’s blockbuster movies include names like SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I, The Kashmir Files, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmastra, Drishyam 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.
On the work front, Kartik Aaryan is all set to entertain the audience with a spine-chilling thriller, Freddy. Alaya F, of Jawaani Jaaneman fame, also plays the lead role in the film. Produced by Balaji Telefilms, NH Studioz, and Northern Lights Films, Freddy will stream on Disney+ Hotstar from December 2, 2022.
